Vinho Verde + Denmark = GrønVin
The Danes will love Vinho Verde – they just haven't discovered it yet
Vinho Verde is still a well-kept secret in Denmark. Less than 1% of the Danes' wine purchases are estimated to be Vinho Verde. Portuguese wines make up only 3% of Denmark's wine imports, which are primarily dominated by Italian, French, and Spanish wines (accounting for around 65%).
Furthermore, 70% of all wine in Denmark is sold through promotional campaigns. And an estimated 30–40% of the Danish population drinks wine regularly while also actively seeking out new wines to try. This paints a picture of a price-sensitive, yet curious and open-minded consumer who is eager to discover something new.
There is a growing interest in authentic, light, and sustainable wines on the Danish wine scene – and Vinho Verde possesses all the qualities the Danish market is looking for.
Culinary versatility: Vinho Verde is made for Danish cuisine – from breaded plaice fillets and shrimp sandwiches to ceviche and vegetarian dishes.
Low alcohol and freshness: Appeals to modern, health-conscious consumers.
Price-to-quality ratio: Vinho Verde offers honest, characterful wine – often at a price where several bottles can be enjoyed without breaking the budget.
Sustainability and cultural heritage: The wine often comes from small, sustainable family farms that have cultivated the land for generations with respect for climate, biodiversity, and tradition.

GrønVin: Introducing Vinho Verde to the Danish market
At GrønVin, we want to introduce Danish importers, distributirs and HoReCa to the great potential of Vinho Verde.
We work directly with Portuguese producers of selected wines that are well-suited for both glass and bottle service, as well as for the modern Nordic food culture.
We believe in a wine experience that isn't just meant to be tasted – but felt. That's why we choose wines with both terroir and a story to tell.
